Draft 2 January 26th 2024
The International Maple Hall of Fame induction is deemed the highest recognition that the maple industry, through the North American Maple Syrup Council (NAMSC), can bestow. Initiated in 1977, and located at the International Maple Museum in Croghan, New York, the induction to the Hall of Fame has been awarded to over one hundred individuals since its’ inception. When one respectfully reviews the names and photos on the wall at the Museum room, one cannot help but be in awe of the enormous contributions those have made.
The Hall of Fame nominating committee:
NAMSC has struck up a Hall of Fame nominating committee to oversee and facilitate the selection and recommendation of potential Hall of Fame inductees each given year. The Committee has an approved Terms of Reference to guide them in their governance of this important initiative. This guideline is intended to provide the committee with direction and guidance in the process of soliciting, vetting and nominating potential candidates.
Process:
• After the May induction ceremony in Croghan, New York, in May of each year, the Committee will begin the process of recruiting and selecting the potential candidates after the induction ceremony.
• A bulletin/nominating form will be submitted to State and Provincial organizations, the IMSI and NAMSC membership and associated packers, research agencies and manufacturing agencies soliciting nominations. The selection criteria will be attached.
• Committee members are eligible to nominate potential candidates.
• Key considerations for the committee’s deliberations will be candidates who have demonstrated significant contributions to improving and advancing the Maple Syrup Industry in North America. The nominee’s contributions must have had or continue to have a positive impact within the maple industry at the local, national and especially the international level.
• The committee will review and evaluate all nominations received by a deadline established and published each year. The Committee may select up to 2 recipients(annually) who are expected to qualify on their own merit individually. This excludes teams, partners, spouses, companies and/or associations that may have been involved but not the leadership required to qualify.
• Posthumously nominations would be accepted within a 5-year horizon date since passing of the nominated individual.
• If for extenuating circumstances the nominees coming forward do not include 2 deserving individuals, the Committee may consider one (1) nominee. The committee reserves the option to forward one, two, or in extreme cases, no names for Council consideration.
• If for any reason the nominee is a relative of any of the committee members, that member will recuse themselves from the discussion and selection decision. Their recusal should be explained in writing to the HOF Chair, with recusal becoming part of the report to the Council Board.
• The committee will facilitate an in-person or Zoom conference to vet nominees followed by written feedback from members. Following a preliminary vote, tallies will be presented, arguments (for or against) will be evaluated and considered. Voting will follow up with a consensus-based agreement on potential nominees for recommendation to the Council.
